Rituals can be highly effective in your self love journey. This is because repeating a similar activity again and again, is the best way to reprogram your subconscious mind. This will help you let go of limiting beliefs and inculcate positive, uplifting beliefs about yourself. Rituals can also help you become more conscious of your inner self and this understanding will help you accept yourself completely.
In a previous article, we discussed some powerful protection rituals you can use to protect yourself. In this article, let’s look at 11 self love rituals that will help you love and accept yourself so you can connect with your true nature and reach your highest potential. How often you do these rituals is dependent on you. You can do some rituals daily and others a weekly or monthly basis. So let’s take a look at these rituals.
Self-love rituals for empaths
1. Self-love mirror ritual
Self-love is all about accepting who you are, including all of your flaws. When you look in a mirror, you should love the person staring back at you. So, what better way to practice self-love than with a mirror ritual?
Simply stand in front of a mirror and gaze into your own eyes. Try to avoid thinking about your flaws and instead, look at yourself without judgment. When you’re ready, repeat some of your favorite affirmations aloud, such as:
“I am beautiful.” or “I can do anything I want to.”
You can repeat this ritual as many times as you want. You can even incorporate it into your daily routine to prepare yourself for the day ahead. Best time to do this ritual is early morning when you first look at yourself in a mirror and evenings before you go to sleep. These are the times when your subconscious mind is most active.
2. Self-love shower ritual
Water is a powerful healer, so taking a shower is the perfect way to unwind and cleanse yourself of unwanted emotions. Firstly, use Palo-Santo or white sage to purify the room. Then, simply stand under the running water and imagine all of your negativity draining down the plug hole. If you wish, you can also light a few of your favorite candles to create a more positive and calming atmosphere.
When you get out of the shower, create a few positive affirmations for yourself. Sit quietly, close your eyes, and repeat them aloud or in your head for as long as you need.
3. Self-love Alter
A self-love altar is a sacred space that you can retreat to when you are feeling emotionally drained. For this reason, you must make it your own by choosing items that are meaningful to you.
You may already have an altar set up in your home. But if you don’t, then a simple bedside cabinet or a shelf in your closet will work just as well! Ensure you choose a place that offers you some privacy, such as your bedroom.
Begin by purifying the area using your favorite cleansing herb. Lavender, sage, sweet grass, and cedar are all excellent choices. Now it’s time to select items for your altar. Make sure you pick things that make you feel beautiful. This could be your favorite crystal, flowers, or even a picture of yourself.
If you’re stuck for ideas, start with a candle in your favourite color and a meaningful item, such as a loved jewelery pendant. There are no rules here! Simply choose items that are special to you.
You can sit in front of your altar and meditate whenever you feel the need.
4. Self-love spell jar
Spell jars are particularly beneficial for empaths because they can be carried around with you (if you make them small enough of course!). Self-love spell jars are great for protecting you against the negativity of others, whilst also promoting self-love.
Find a suitable jar and cleanse it by burning sage or another similar herb. Then, gather your items and begin layering them in your jar, making sure the heaviest items are placed at the bottom. Ingredients you can use include:
- Pink salt – for self-love and cleansing
- Black obsidian chips – for protection against negativity
- Pink Quartz chips – to promote self-love
- Dried lavender – to purify your intent
- Rosemary – for cleansing and emotional healing
- Sugar – to help you feel sweeter towards yourself
As you are adding the ingredients, really focus on your intentions for the spell. What do you hope to accomplish? It can be helpful to write down a few positive affirmations before you begin and say them aloud as you fill your jar.
When you are finished, light a pink candle and melt the wax over the jar to seal it. Carry your self-love spell jar in your pocket or wear it as a necklace pendant whenever you need a confidence boost.
5. Self-love birthday ritual
What better time to reflect on your goals and achievements than on your birthday? Begin by taking a calming cleansing bath to wash away any negativity.
Then, pick your favorite color candle and anoint it in your chosen essential oil; geranium, frankincense, rosemary, and bergamot are all great choices for self-love. Place your candle on an agate slice and light it. If you don’t have an agate slice, you can simply burn your candle alongside an appropriate crystal, such as rose quartz.
As your candle burns down, gaze into the flame and think about all the positive things in your life and all the qualities you admire in yourself. Do this until the candle burns out.
6. Self-love new Moon ritual
The new moon is all about new beginnings. So, it is the ideal time to perform a self-love ritual to set you up for the month ahead.
On the night of the new moon, light a large white candle in front of a mirror and hold a blooming rose. When you feel ready, drop a pinch of salt into a bowl of purified water and add a suitable essential oil, such as rose or sweet orange. Dip your hands in the water and gently run them over your aura, starting with your head and finishing down at your feet.
As you do this, consider saying a few words such as:
“Blessed deity, cleanse and bless my mind, body, and soul.”
Next, place your hands over your heart and say:
“Cleanse my heart, make me courageous and strong enough to tackle anything that is thrown my way. So mote it be.”
Once done, snuff out your candle and pour the remaining water onto natural ground outside your home.
7. Self-love bead meditation ritual
To perform this ritual, you will need a necklace made out of beads or pearls. If you don’t have one, consider making your own. There are plenty of tutorials on the internet and the process will make your spell much more personalized.
To make this more powerful, try using natural beads to create your necklace (or mala) like Rudraksh beads or Juniper beads. You will need at least 10 beads.
How to do: Hold the necklace in your power hand, take the first bead between your fingers and compliment yourself. Try to be as specific as you can. Are you a great listener when someone is in trouble? Do you face adversity with courage? Really think hard about the positives you bring to this world. As you move on to each bead, give yourself another compliment. When you have passed over every bead, your necklace is ready to wear.
8. Self-love rose quartz ritual
Rose quartz is known as the stone of unconditional love, and for good reason! This gentle but powerful crystal can help you to realize your own worth, which can be difficult when you are constantly influenced by the negativity of those around you.
Hold a rose quartz crystal in your dominant hand and feel its beautiful, calming energy. Close your eyes, take a deep breath, and say:
“I choose love.”
Then, lie down somewhere comfortable and place the crystal on your chest. Close your eyes and imagine a soft pink light enveloping your whole body, radiating from your heart through to your fingers and toes.
This is a great morning ritual to help you feel revitalized and ready to face the day.
9. Self-Love Body Scrub ritual
If you are feeling particularly overwhelmed and unworthy, treat yourself to a self-love body scrub ritual. You can easily make your own scrub with Epsom salts or plain white sugar. Simply add your favorite essential oils, crushed dried rose petals, and a teaspoon of olive oil.
Before your bath, light a candle in front of a mirror and try to see yourself in a purely positive light. Don’t worry about your love handles or your imperfect skin. Instead, affirm to yourself that you are beautiful inside and out. Repeat this affirmation as you climb into the bath and clean yourself with the scrub.
When you are done, imagine all of your negative thoughts draining away with the bath water.
10. Self-love grounding ritual
If you are an empath, you will know that an overload of feelings can make you feel drained and unsure of yourself. Especially if you have difficulty distinguishing your own emotions from those of others. If this is the case, a grounding ritual can be the perfect tool to help you reconnect with your inner self.
When the weather is nice, take yourself on a trip to your local country park and sit with your back against a tree. Close your eyes and feel the earth beneath you. Feel the tree’s roots, the grass, and allow yourself to become one with it.
If you do not have access to the outdoors, you can simply place your hands into a bowl of salt and meditate to cleanse your body and balance your emotions.
11. Self-love heart chakra meditation ritual
When your heart chakra becomes blocked, it can make you feel anxious and emotionally withdrawn. To clear your heart chakra, sit in a comfortable position and focus on taking deep, slow breaths.
When you feel ready, imagine a bright green light spinning out from your heart. With every inhale, imagine it expanding until it encompasses your entire body. Inhale again and let this light fill you with feelings of compassion, love, and forgiveness towards yourself and others.
At this point, you can say an affirmation aloud such as:
“I am surrounded by love” or “I accept every part of myself.”
You should then feel much lighter!
Conclusion
Being an empath can feel like both a gift and a curse. However, by regularly practicing self-love rituals, you can learn to accept every part of yourself and appreciate your own power and strength without feeling constantly overwhelmed.
